The Alphonse coop is the older brother to the Emily 3’x 6′ coop. It has more square footage and is taller, being able to house up to 10 or 12 adult chickens or ducks. We’ve also had adolescent chicks and ducklings enjoy this coop too!
We ship this coop nationwide. We hand-assemble each coop before each shipping, then we remove a few screws for shipping.
This coop is an open-floor design. We find that this makes cleanup a lot easier. We designed this coop to be easily-moved so that chickens can have fresh grass. An added benefit is that you can gradually fertilize portions of your yard as the coops are moved around.
Some customers ask about lining the bottom of the coop with galvanized wire mesh. In our experience this is not necessary. While some predators do dig, they usually don’t have time to dig enough in one night to get under the coop. Just put the coop on level ground, and keep an eye out for developing holes. Move the coop if you see a hole beside it.
However, if you live in fox or marten country, because those predators are fast diggers, then we do recommend adding a lining on the bottom of your coop.
